Hey!!

Hey loves!

Some of you might have noticed and some of you obviously didn’t, but I’ve been blogging on hadizaobi.com. I didn’t want to move my posts to the new blog because I liked the idea of starting afresh. Anyway, I’d love if you check my new website out and tell me what you think and subscribe there too. I’d be keeping this one open though, for personal reasons.

I’ve got a few posts on the new site now. Do stop by soon.

Love,

Hadiza

Broken Dictionary

Hello lavs. It’s been a while. I thought I had a scheduled post but alas, I did not. What with getting married and settling down in a new place, life has been a tad crazy. Can you believe it’s the end of September? Insane. I literally can’t believe the year is about to end.

I wanted to start with a Taking Stock post and share my current craves and happenings but there’s something fun I’d like to share with you all. You know how sometimes there is an African article you read online or a book and there are certain words written in pidgin language you can’t seem to understand? Well, some really cool people came up with an idea to help via a website called  brokendictionary.com. It is an online platform for sharing and learning Pidgin English words and phrases from Nigeria, China, Cameroon, Ghana, Hawaii and other places across the globe. So basically, you can put in words unique to where you are from as well as learn from other people from different countries. How rad is that! It’s still relatively new but I’m interested to see how awesome it can get.

Go visit the website and share a few words that you know in pidgin. Or check for that one word you have been hearing your wafi friends say and you can’t seem to figure out. Make this happen loves. 😊

You can also follow Broken Dictionary on twitter, @forpidgin.

Until next time loves, stay awesome ❤️.

Be Selfish

Hello lavs!
How are you guys doing with your ‘resolutions’? The first month in 2015 is already over (pretty quick, huh?), and sadly a lot of us have dropped half of our ‘resolutions’ already.

It’s kinda obvious that I’m always talking about goals and self improvement. I’m all about that. But the truth, while it is fun to write down all the things you intended to achieve in the future, it is a lot harder and a lot less fun actually working to fulfil those goals.

It’s February 1st and I’m sure some of us expected a sudden change in our characters, our weights, and everything we wished for in general. Honey, it took you about 9 months to be made, it took you a whole lot more time to develop the habits you have now, so it is going to take even more time to achieve your goals. It has to be a conscious effort. You will fall and get up again. That’s what makes your journey unique and exciting. Even when you love what you have started, creating time for it might be very hard.

So today, for the month of February, I want to leave you (and me first) with a couple of advices.

1. Make your goals realistic for you. A friend of mine told me to join her in reading 200 books this year. As much as I love to read, I just do not have enough time at the moment. I have not even finished the first book I started. So, I told myself, I would read as much as I can this year. I have to be realistic and understand that I have a lot on my plate right now. That way, even if I don’t read up to 200 books, I won’t feel like I failed at my goal.

2. Make your goals fun and pleasurable. If you have a goal that seems like the one I mentioned above, after a while it begins to look like a chore. All the fun gets taken out of it because you have put yourself in a box. Relax. Take it easy on yourself. There are tons of things daily that stress us out already.

3. Do it for you. Not for your friends. Not for your partner. Not for social media. Make a change for you. Whether it is losing weight or travelling more, do it because you want to. Not because everyone is doing it or someone says you should.

4. Everyday do something that gets you closer to your goal.

Overall, when it involves improving ourselves, we have to be ready to fight like hell to do it. Whether it is working out daily, eating healthier, quitting alcohol, it is not going to be easy.
So take a minute and think about your goals again. Ask yourself why you want to engage in those particular things. Take a big breath. Be selfish. Make those goals about yourself first. Put yourself first. Embrace your journey.
Trust me, it would work out this time.
In sha Allah.

Ciao!

16 Most Important Things Every Woman Should Learn

This is one of the most beautiful things I have read this year. To all my sisters out there, this os for you.

infinite satori

“A woman is a beast. She is as lovely as she is repulsive. She is one part demon and one part goddess, one part slave and one part muse, one part child and one part mother. These contradictions are what makes a woman so intoxicating.”

– Andrea Mary Marshall

Note: This not just limited to one gender, it’s for everyone. But it is, however, dedicated to the sisterhood.

To every single woman in this world, I dedicate this post to you. May we always strive to become better people.

1. To be brave and to always follow your fears.

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”- Anais Nin

If you weren’t afraid of anything, what would you do?

With courage, you are given the power to do anything in the world. We hold ourselves back so much because of fear. I’ve known so many women who have…

I’ve Changed…

I’ve changed…

No, don’t roll your eyes just yet. I’ve changed…for good this time.

Promise.

It is major.

I have changed….

…my blog address

to HADIZAOBI.WORDPRESS.COM. (In case you didn’t notice already.)

Don’t hate me. 😀

And do not go to mizdeeza.wordpress.com. It’s gone. The old posts are here.

I wonder why I chose the old name, seeing as I don’t really like being called ‘deeza’.

Well, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision. The cockroaches caused it, remember? 🙂

Well, don’t forget…I have changed…

I mean it! Don’t go typing mizdeeza.wordpress.com into your browser! Please.

It is still Hadiza behind the blog.

Ciao, lavs. xoxo
